Our Annual General Meeting covering the financial year from April 2024-25 will be taking place in Screen 2 at the Picture House on Sunday 10th August after a screening of Gianni Di Gregorio’s modern Italian classic Mid-August Lunch, “a wonderfully patient, delicately observed film; warm, generous, never for a moment sentimental or patronising, never exploiting dottiness and eccentricity” (The Observer).

1:30pm – Doors open
2pm – Film: Mid-August Lunch (U, 2008, 71mins) introduced by the Friends
3:20pm – Break for refreshments and membership payments
3:50pm – AGM
5pm – AGM concludes

We would be glad to see as many of you as possible there but you will need to be signed up to our Pay What You Decide membership scheme in order to vote at the AGM. You can join online now or there should be opportunity to join in person during the refreshment break.

June’s First Thursday

For June’s First Thursday we’ll be meeting this Thursday 5th around 8pm in the cinema bar to chat about films we’ve seen recently, films we want to see, films we’re sad we’ve missed!

That should give you time to see The Ballad of Wallis Island in screen 1 at 18:10 or screen 2 at 20:20 or The Phoenician Scheme at 17:50 in screen 2 or 20:40 in screen 1.

May’s First Thursday

Please join us on May 1st at 9pm onwards in the cinema bar to discuss all things film including but not exclusively Licorice Pizza which HPPH is screening as part of its Philosophy and Film strand that evening from 6pm.

Licorice Pizza has been selected by Dr. Colette Olive and will be followed by a short talk from Colette exploring the philosophical themes raised.

Tickets are already selling fast for this screening so we recommend booking if you want to join us.

April’s First Thursday

Please join us on April 3^rd at 8pm onwards in the cinema bar to discuss all things film. Some of us will be watching The End at 5:10pm and if you already have your tickets there should be time to say hello before the 8:20pm screening of La Cocina. Both of these films are screening all week along with more chances to see I’m Still Here, Santosh and Anora.

Return To Dust – Wednesday 12th April

Whilst we eagerly await the reopening of the Picture House, we have arranged a joint presentation with Films at Heart of the Golden Bear nominated ‘Return to Dust‘ on Wednesday April 12th.

2022’s Return to Dust is a Chinese drama in which Ma and Cao have been forced into an arranged marriage by their families. They do their best to build a home whilst facing many great challenges together. The unlikely couple form a bond to create an unexpected love story.

This screening forms part of the regular Films at Heart programme, all tickets are £6/£5 and available via the HEART reception and online. Of course very nice refreshments are available too. And we’ll be there for a friendly chat.

On The Road: New Indies

From this weekend, the first official On the Road screenings are set to begin – with the first films showing at Leeds University Union’s Pyramid Theatre. The NEW INDIES strand, kicks off with two screenings of the gripping new documentary Midnight Traveller. Winner of Sheffield DocFest’s Grand Jury Award, this remarkable film follows a family’s epic flight from persecution.

Also playing at the Union this Sunday is the brilliant coming-of-age drama The Miseducation of Cameron Post, showing as part of LGBTQ History Month. And animation fans are in for a treat on Monday, with Makoto Shinkai’s romantic, visually dazzling follow-up to Your Name – Weathering With You.

The NEW INDIES screenings at Leeds University Union are open to absolutely everyone, and are only a 10min walk from the cinema. There’s a 2-4-1 ticket offer for both screenings of Midnight Traveller – this Sunday (3.30pm) & Monday (6.30pm).
